The Bobo drawn by Eduardo Abela served to criticize the repressive policy of Gerardo Machado. Today this cartoon is a jewel of Cuban painting. The year 1926 in Cuba and the island was ruled by Gerardo Machado, who led the country's repressive measures and fell into a scene of crimes and illegalities.

Víctor Manuel was one of the painters who promoted the change of style in Cuba during the 1920s. His best known work is Gitana tropical. If Cuban painting has a before and an after, a point of no return, there is the work of Víctor Manuel García Valdés (1897-1969 ).

Wilfredo Lam is the most universal artist of Cuba. His works are highly sought after in auctions worldwide. Maybe around the time, Wifredo Lam is the only Cuban painter firmly recognized in encyclopedias of art. Maybe could not. Let's wait and see if the twentieth century becomes dust, with only some columns, or if the fickle fame finisecular recognizes a rebellious artist, or Havana Basquiat.

Cuban colonial painting is typical of XIX century. The period was characterized by the need to reproduce artistic European reality on the island. With the arrival of the Iberian pictorial potential of the original inhabitants caught in a cave magical and religious expression of breath.

The first Cuban vanguard succeeded academicism in Cuban painting of the early twentieth century. Carlos Enríquez strokes represent that generation. Carlos Enríquez shattered the conventions of a scholarship paralyzed for a hundred years in the more traditional plastic canon of Europe and a prude society, thanks to the powerful blood sugar.
