Variations of a recipe for living

The daily life of a cuisine innovator is recreated by Cuba24Horas.

The roasted pork meat is one of the traditional Cuban foods. In most Cuban celebrations to "roast a pork leg" is part of the party.

In Cuban cuisine the use of the yucca is also traced to the time of the aboriginal inhabitants. Almost 5000 years ago the American man discovered one of the most used autochthonous tubers of the continent. Known as yucca, it can be found in indigenous languages such as Arhuaco and Náhuatl, as well as in the Caribbean dialects Tunis and Tupis.

Pork is one of the most appreciated meats by Cubans. It has a long history in the island and it is more used than any other, since most parts of the pig are usable and it serves as the main element in countless recipes. It can also be mixed with other products and we can obtain a wide variety of sausages. The use of pork in Cuban cuisine goes so far as one can imagine.

Rice is essential in the Cuban diet. It is included in most of the traditional recipes and in most of the daily meals. Supermarkets are oversupplied with junk food, with high calories and saturated fat that jeopardizes human health.

French toasts in syrup are a dish that has perfectly adapted to Cuban palate. This dessert has many versions worldwide. French toasts dates from XV century which was the one where they were indicated for the women in labor recovery. At the beginning of the XX century it was used to see French toasts with glasses of wine. These toasts were very common in Spanish cookery and they got to Cuba through Iberian colonists' hands.

Cuban cookery is the result of the Cuban cultural mix. Typical recipes have the idiosyncrasy of cultures that make this people. The mixture of the same factors that permitted the formation of the nationality like Iberian, aborigine and African costumes, and the influence of the Asian and American immigration.
