Was MLB able to leave a legacy in Cuba?

Since their arrival in Havana, the ambassadors of Major League Baseball (MLB) announced their message of good will in favor of baseball, a sport that is part of the national identity of Cuba and the United States.

Baseball Clinic at the Latin American Stadium

On Wednesday December 16, as part of the official visit by Major League Baseball to Cuba, MLB stars with the glories of Cuba National Series taught a clinic on pitching, hitting and fielding promising future in baseball Latin American Stadium.

MLB: chimera of Cuban baseball

Baseball in Cuba is a passion. Legal participation of Cuban baseball players in America's MLB is an old dream.

Professionals' leagues of different countries recruited several Cuban baseball players. Once the 53rd edition of the National Baseball Series concluded last April, several international professionals teams from different leagues had the possibility to choose some Cuban baseball players to reinforce their teams, especially Japanese baseball teams, the second best league after the north American League.

The speed of the launchings from the pitcher Lázaro Valles was memorable. Up to date his 25 victories in a row continues to be a Cuban record. He was called The Supersonic because his home straight traveled to a speed of 98 miles per hour, a real pain in the neck for the batters who faced him.

The home run record still remains untouched since Orestes Kindelan it imposed in 1997. In this baseball player's career highlight was his strength at bat. What's impressive is not breaking the mark this year, but today it seems impossible to match it Kindelán led to record 487 homers.

José Luis Lazo was one of the most impressive pitcher of Cuban baseball. His averages and results testify to this. It was a character on the mound. No waiting between each shot and despaired the hitters. Jaraneaba good as any Cuban who walks the streets. In his shirt a number that only has left him chiquitico, 99, and not just because of his height 1.92 meters.

One of the greatest third baseman Omar Linares was. During his career he broke several records that have remained unbeatable. In this slugger, master at third base, not seldom without striking out swinging at a pitch, many were enthusiastic to see him play. Some consider it the best third baseman who has given Cuba and the world.

Cuban's passion is baseball. The fervor makes impetuously encourage its team, while recognizing the statistics of the best selection. Very few thought in the nineteenth century that this sport forbidden October 1, 1868 by Captain General of the island, Francisco Lersundi years later became the national passion.
